京都精華大学 伝統産業イノベーションセンターは、多角的な視点で社会課題を議論するシンポジウム「Things - 工芸から覗く未来」を開催します。昨年に引き続き、自然環境やプロダクトデザイン、教育、職人文化など工芸をめぐる有形無形の事柄について議論します。
「表現の大学」を掲げる京都精華大学が、工芸の世界でさまざまな取り組みをおこなう方々とともに伝統的な手仕事を起点として未来の社会像について考えます。
京都精華大学は、2018年度に文部科学省「私立大学研究ブランディング事業」の採択を受け、「持続可能な社会に向けた伝統文化の『表現』研究」をテーマに活動を展開しています。

新型コロナウイルスの影響が拡大するなか、今回はオンラインでの開催を決定しました。このような状況にあるからこそ、多くの、さまざまな立場の人々を交えてこれからの社会像について話し合う機会が大切だと考えたためです。

Kyoto Seika University’s Center for Innovation in Traditional Industries will host its second annual symposium,
Things—The Future Seen Through Craft. Continuing the conversations from last year, this event will serve as a platform to
address societal issues from multiple perspectives. Topics include both tangible and intangible aspects of craft, such as the
natural environment, product design, education, and artisan culture. Together with guests who lead a wide range of initiatives in
the field of craft, Kyoto Seika University will organize discussions on the future of our society as seen through the lens of
traditional handcrafts. In the fiscal year 2018, Kyoto Seika University was selected for the Private University Research Branding
Project by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). As a university committed to recognizing
the value of expression, we have since developed projects to research traditional cultural expressions in the context of a
sustainable society.

Amid the spread of the novel coronavirus and its expanding impact, we have made the decision to host this year’s events online.
Now more than ever, we believe it is crucial to engage in a dialogue about the future of our society with a diverse group of
speakers. We look forward to your participation.

Center for Innovation in Traditional Industries, Kyoto Seika University
The Center for Innovation in Traditional Industries was established in 2017 to compile and utilize the academic resources on
traditional industries cultivated by Kyoto Seika University. Located in one of the world’s leading sites of craft production,
the Kyoto-based center aims to build new partnerships in handcrafts across national and regional borders through research,
